Construction Studs PlumbingHigher than normal water bills, changes in water pressure, musty odors are obvious signs of a water leak. But pinpointing the trouble spot can be difficult.

This is because most of your plumbing pipes are hidden behind the scenes. To keep you from costly damages, here are a few things to keep an eye out for.

Clogged Drains

More than just annoying, clogged drains put a lot of stress on the pipes, cause pinhole leaks.

Weak pipe joints

Where water pipes join together are typically the weakest area. Over time, they are known to deteriorate and lead to leaks. Take the time to listen to your pipes, if you hear any banging, ticking, or water running when everything is turned off, it can indicate a leak.

Extreme fluctuation temperature

This time of year in Central Florida the temperature can fluctuate significantly.  Causing pipes to expanding or contracting quicker and more aggressively than normal. Causing cracks and leaks.

High water pressure

Overly high pressure can put stress on your pipes. While designed to withstand some pressure, over time it takes a toll, causing damage.

Broken water connectors

Appliance hoses that supply water often comes loose. For instance, the washing machine rocks and shifts when running, putting significant stress on the hose. Which can cause it to burst.

Corrosion

As water pipes age, they succumb to corrosion, rust and deposit on the inside of the pipes.

Your yard

Tree roots are known for interfering with the water lines in Florida. Keep an eye out for a drop in water pressure, as well as unusual wet areas.
