Clean water should always be tasteless and odorless. When the pipes begin to corrode on the inside, the flowing through the water takes some of the minerals, giving the water a strange, sweet, or metallic taste. Some people have experienced an odd smell to the water when the pipes have corroded.

Water is Discolored

The easiest way to tell if your pipes are corroding is to turn the faucet on first thing in the morning into a clear glass. The particles tend to be more concentrated after they have settled in the water overnight. Depending on what type of pipes you have, the water may have the reddish brown tint of rust if you have steel pipes and blue green if you have copper pipes.

Water Leaks

The leading cause of water leaks is corroded pipes. Not only does it weaken the pipes and cause them to burst, it causes the pipe to have pits which leads to pinhole leaks that often times aren’t noticed until significant damage is done.

Clogged Pipes

Corroded particles can easily build up and result in clogs and low water pressure. Clogged pipes can also lead to bursted pipes and leaks.

It is important to be on the look out for any of these signs and be proactive.  If you suspect a water leak but can’t pinpoint the location, contact the Leak Doctor.
